An English clergyman and historian; born at Dover, in 1660; died in 1728. From 1718 until his death he occupied the episcopal see of Peterborough. In 1706 he brought out a complete "History of England", from the earliest times to the death of William III., a work of great accuracy and interest; and in 1713 "Bibliothecae Americanae Primordia", an attempt towards laying the foundation of an American library.
