A kind of local variable in certainprogramming languages that retains its value even whenprogram execution moves outside its scope. This contrastswith an ordinary, automatic variable, which is reinitialised(possibly to an undefined value) every time the block isentered.Static variables have a fixed location in the data section ofthe program's address space whereas automatic variables aretypically allocated on the stack.
