Prepared by igniting a mixture of four parts of native chromite of iron (chrome iron ore) and one part of nitre; dissolving out the chromate of potassa by water, and crystallizing. It has been used as an emetic, expectorant and diaphoretic. Dose, as an emetic, from two to four grains; as an expectorant, from 1/8th to 1/2 grain. In the proportion of one drachm to 32 ounces of water, it has been used as an antiseptic wash- called by Jacobson, Liquor conserva'trix.
