A fleshy, firm body, unknown in its mode of reproduction, which is found under ground, especially in different parts of France, Italy, etc., and is much esteemed as an aliment. It seems to belong to the champignons, and has a particular perfume. Aphrodisaic virtues have been ascribed to it. A Virginia truffle is called Tuckaho.
