A Belgian historian, journalist, novelist, and poet; born in Rotterdam, 1829; died at Brussels, 1884. He removed to Belgium in boyhood and rose rapidly to distinction as a Liberal journalist. He edited the Belgian Star and the Parliamentary Echo for some years, and was elected to Parliament in 1859. He wrote: "History of the Marquisate of Anvers", "Popular History of Belgium", and "Political and Parliamentary History of Belgium"; two popular novels, "Andre Bailly" and "The Buvard Family"; and some pleasing poems.
