-
A long, small, thin muscle, situate at the upper part of the orbitar cavity. By its posterior extremity it is inserted into the little ala of the sphenoid bone, immediately in front of the foramen opticum, and, by its anterior extremity, which is expanded, it terminates at the upper margin of the tarsal cartilage of the eyelid. This muscle raises the upper eyelid, draws it backwards, and sinks it into the orbit.
