An Italian lyric poet; born in Nago, March 20, 1813; died at Milan, Aug. 21, 1866. He was a lawyer at Trieste for many years, and became a government pleader upon the union of Lombardy and Piedmont. Ballads and lyrics were his poetical forms. "What Is the Italian's Country?\" is an attempt to write a national hymn. "Verses"; "Memories and Fancies"; "Umberto Biancamano"; and a poem written in honor of the Dante sexcentenary, have given him a prominent position among modern Italian authors.
