An Australian poet; born in Fayal, Azores, in 1833; died June 24, 1870. He was an Oxford man, who emigrated to Australia and became a noted lover of the turf. He won considerable reputation as a writer of verse; his "Poems" (1868), largely bush ballads and lyrics of the antipodes, reaching a fifth edition.
