An American naturalist, scientific and political writer; born in Beverly, Mass., Nov. 5, 1805; died in North Cambridge, Mass., May 6, 1884. Some of his books are: "Studies in the Field and Forest" (1857); "Halcyon Days"; "A Year among the Trees" (1881); and "A Year among the Birds".
