A Czech story-writer; born in Nekrasin, near Neuhaus, Bohemia, April 17, 1817. He was a Catholic chaplain at Hradek. For the past thirty years he has written stories and novels in profusion under the pseudonym of "Frantisek[Francis] Pravda", all of which deal with life among the Czechs, and are exceedingly popular with that people. The tales are of a moral nature, and while lacking high qualities of genius, merit notice as studies in a pleasing school of realism.
