A French poet and novelist (1789-1856). His chief poetical work is "Charlemagne, or the Caroleid" (1818), an epic; and of his novels the most successful was "Le Solitaire" (1821), which was translated into all European languages. Among several pamphlets, written in support of the Legitimist cause in 1848, one entitled "God Wills It" went through 64 editions.
