A bridge consisting essentially of piers of masonry supporting a huge lintel made on the plan of a flanged beam or girder, not in one piece, but built up of bars and plates of iron riveted together. Instead, however, of the flanges being connected by a single web in the middle, the connexion is made by two webs, one on each side; the whole, therefore, takes the form of a tube, and within the tube is the roadway. There are numerous unessential modifications of this kind of bridge.
