(1710-1785), was Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court from 1766 to 1769, and Governor of Connecticut from 1769 to 1783. He was the only one of the colonial Governors who espoused the people's cause. He aided the colonists with all his power, and was one of the principal advisers of Washington. (1740-1809), represented Connecticut in the U.S. Congress as a Federalist from 1789 to 1795, and in the U.S. Senate from 1795 to 1796. He was Governor of Connecticut from 1798 to 1809.
