The Egyptian name of the sovereign or sovereigns known to Europeans under the name Sesostris. From the accounts of Herodotus, Manetho, and Diodorus, it seems impossible to say when he reigned. The date of the Sesostris of Manetho differs from that of the S. of Herodotus by about 2000 years. Accord to Herodotus, he was a conqueror who subdued both Assyria and Asia Minor.
