An American physician and bacteriologist; born at Middlebury, Conn., July 7, 1849. He is professor of pathology in theCollege of Physicians and Surgeons, New York. His works include: "Handbook of Pathological Anatomy and Histology" (1885), with F. Delafield; "Story of the Bacteria" (1889); "Dust and its Dangers" (1891); "Water and Ice"; "On the Great American Plateau".
