A plot by which the name of Marie Antoinette, wife of Louis XVI., King of France, was tarnished, on the supposition that she was privy to the intrigue by which the Countess of Lamotte Valois obtained possession of a diamond necklace bespoken for Mad. du Barry by Louis XV., and at that time in the hands of the queen's jewellers.
