was selected as the seat of the territorial government in 1822. It was laid out in 1824, and became a city in 1827. Tallahassee was occupied May 10, 1865, by General McCook and 500 Federal soldiers for the purpose of receiving the surrender of the Confederates in that section, who were commanded by San Jones. No fighting of consequence occurred.
