A Greek geographer; born 63 B.C. (?); died 22 A. D. (?). His "Geographica", in 17 books, contains first, criticisms of former geographers, and a treatise on physical geography; then accounts of Spain, Gaul, Britain, and Ireland, Italy, north and east Europe as far as the Danube, Greece, Asia, and Africa. Of his historical work, in 47 books, only fragments remain.
