Great Burreed, from Sparganon, owing to the ribbon-like leaves. Indigenous; Order, Typhaceae; flowering in July and August. The roots are subastringent, but esculent; yielding a fine fecula, similar to salep. They are sometimes made into a poultice for inflamed mammae.
