One who secedes;—one of a body of Presbyterians who separated from the Established Church in Scotland in 17M3, and formed the Associate Synod; also, one of another body of Presbyterians who left the Establishment on the question of patronage, and formed the Relief Synod in 1701—the Associate and Relief Synods were incorporated in 1847, under the name of United Presbyterian Church;—also, one of a small body which left the Secession on establishment principles, and which now forms the Synod of United Original Seceders.
