-
A cylindrical metallic case or tube having at the bottom a valve opening inwardly and used for removing the sand which collects in the bore when a well, etc., is being drilled. On the drill being temporarily removed the sand-pump is lowered, the water and dirt force up the valve and enter the tube, the valve dropping again to prevent their return. This being repeated again and again the tube becomes filled, on which it is drawn to the surface and emptied.
