An American poet; born in Bordentown, N. J., Feb. 8, 1844. Since 1881 he has been editor-in-chief of the Century. His works include: "The New Day" (1875); "The Celestial Passion" (1887); "Lyrics"; "Two Worlds, and Other Poems" (1891); "The Great Remembrance, and Other Poems" (1893); "Five Books of Song"; "A Book of Music" (1906).
