An English poet and historian; born in London in 1833. He was a minister of the English Church. He was associated with Burne-Jones, Rossetti, and Morris, in founding the Oxford and Cambridge Magazine, the organ of the pre-Raphaelite school. His poetical works are: "Christ's Company and Other Poems" (1861); an epic "Mano" (1883); "Odes and Eclogues" (1884); "Lyrical Poems" (1887). His principal historical work is a "History of the Church of England" (4 vols., 1880-91). Died Jan., 1900.
