An American editor and author; born in Peacham, Vt., Dec. 27, 1809; died in Brooklyn, N. Y., Dec. 10, 1889. He was editor of the Independent from 1865 to 1870; became editor of the Christian Union in 1872; was one of the founders of the New England Anti-Slavery Society in 1832; and published "William Lloyd Garrison and his Times" (1880).
