Syn.: thus. Frankincense; a gum resin obtained by incision from the stem of Boswellia Carterii and other species of Boswellia. O. is chiefly used as an incense, though it is probably equal to other balsamic medicines as a stimulant to the mucous membranes, and its use as a fumigatory in bronchitis and chronic laryngitis is recommended.
