Two triangular valves at the opening of communication between the left auricle of the heart and the corresponding ventricle. These valves are formed by the inner membrane of the left cavities of the heart; and are retained on the side of the ventricle by tendinous cords, proceeding from the columnae carneae. They form a species of valve, which permit the blood to pass from the auricle into the ventricle and oppose its return.
