An English novelist, daughter of William Evans; born in London, March 6, 1838; died, June 22, 1896. In 1861 she married the eldest son of Charles Dickens. Her best-known novel is "A Mere Cipher" (1893). She also wrote "Cross Currents" (1892); "Valiant Ignorance" (1894); "Some Women's Ways", a volume of short stories.
