An American historian; born in Plainfield, Mass., Aug. 13, 1829; died in New York city, Jan. 2, 1893. The best known of her works is the "History of the City of New York" (2 vols., 1877-81). She also wrote "The Homes of America" (1879); "Wall Street in History" (1883). For years she was editor of the Magazine of American History. Mrs. Lamb was a member of many learned societies in this country and Europe.
