A French novelist and writer of travels (1790-1857); born near Metz. He traveled in the British Isles, Switzerland, and Southern Italy (1811-22), and afterward in Spain and Russia. The results of his observations in Russia were of considerable importance, and were published in 4 vols., 1843. He wrote a tragedy, "Beatrice Cenci"; and some romances, among them "Aloysius, or the Monk of St. Bernard"; "Romuald, or the Vocation". His "Letters to Varnhagen von Ense and Rachel Varnhagen von Ense" were published in 1870.

- An enzyme that catalyzes the of groups from acetyl-CoA to arylamines. They have wide specificity for aromatic amines, particularly serotonin, and can also catalyze acetyl transfer between arylamines without CoA. EC 2.3.1.5.
