An American journalist and novelist; born in Rockland, Mass., Aug. 20, 1845; died there, May 19, 1898. At one time she was connected with the New York Tribune. Her best-known works are: "In Buncombe County"; "A Vacation in a Buggy"; (1887); "Tenting at Stony Beach" (1888); "Rowena in Boston" (1892); "In a Dike Shanty" (1896).
