Mechanical contrivances for converting a continuous circular motion into an alternating circular or rectilinear motion; they are used in mangles. The axis carrying the pinion is capable of a small motion, and, under the guidance of a groove, works alternately on interior and exterior teeth in the case of the wheel, and above and below a set of projecting teeth in the case of the rack.
