A German poet and novelist (1821-77), sister of Georg. Her first publication, "Women and their Calling" (1855), was followed by many others on the "woman's-rights question"; it commanded much attention, and reached a fifth edition (1883). She wrote a volume of tales, "From Life" (1861); "Poet-Voices of Home and Foreign Lands"; several original poems, "Woman's Heart"; some "Christmas Stories"; etc.
