A system of botanical classification, in which plants are divided into Cryptogamia and Phanerogamia, according as they are without or with stamens and pistils; the latter are divided into 23 classes according to the number and various peculiarities of their stamens. The system is called the artificial system as distinguished from the natural or Jussieuan system.
