A shrub, which grows wild both in Europe and in the United States, usually in hedges. The leaves are astringent and bitter; and the flowers, which are snowwhite, and of an agreeable odour, have been employed in decoction, in sore throat, and ulcerous stomatitis. The berries are said to be cathartic.
