(born in Germany, died 1691), came to America in the service of the Dutch West India Company. From 1683 to 1688 he was one of the commissioners of the New York Court of Admiralty. In 1689 he headed a revolution against the Jacobite office-holders. He was placed at the head of the provisional Government, and continued in office until 1691. He was succeeded by Henry Sloughter, and soon afterward executed on a charge of treason. In 1695 Parliament reversed the charge.
