A noted Spanish dramatist and poet, son of Nicolas F.; born at Madrid, March 10, 1760; died at Paris, June 21, 1828. He has been called "the Spanish Moliere". Among his plays were: "The Old Man and the Young Girl" (1790), his best drama; "The New Comedy" (1792); "The Baron" (1803); "The Female Hypocrite" (1804); "The Girl's Yes" (1806); etc. He wrote also "Origins of the Spanish Stage"; lyrical poems; etc. His works can be seen in Vol. ii. of "Library of Spanish Authors".
