In bot. applied to the natural system of classifying plants originally promulgated by Jussieu, a French botanist, which superseded the artificial system of Linnaeus. The system has been improved by De Candolle, Lindley, the Hookers, and others, though the broad principles are the same as originally sketched out by its founder.
