These occupy the intervals between the spinous processes in the back and loins. In the neck, they are replaced by the muscles of the same name. They prevent the too great flexion of the spine, and keep the spinous processes in situ. The outermost thickened portions of these are, sometimes, termed Ligamen'ta a'picum.
