is the trunk common to the right primitive carotid and to the subclavian. It arises from the anterior part of the arch of the aorta, ascends obliquely to the right, along the trachea; and after a course of about an inch in length, divides into two trunks, which go off at right angles. The one is external- the right subclavian proper; the other superior- the primitive carotid, of the same side.
