A Polish poet and sketch-writer; born in Zabloczyzna, Jan. 15, 1795; died there, Aug. 1, 1861. He first attempted odes in the classical style; but subsequently produced "Lithuanian Pictures" (1840-62) and "Lithuanian Traditions" (1852-58), vivid prose sketches of manners and people, portraying especially the Lithuanian nobility of the 18th century.
