A protoxide of mercury, formed by trituration with carbonate of lime. It is somewhat uncertain; and consequently not much employed as a mercurial. It possesses the properties of the black oxide of mercury, and may be advantageously exhibited in cases of diarrhoea in children, dependent upon acidity and vitiated secretions.
