(1721-1803), theologian, was born in Connecticut. He was ordained in 1743, and became a pastor at Newport, R. I., in 1770. He was prominent in the Rhode Island anti-slavery movements in 1774. His religious views exerted a powerful influence. He wrote "A System of Doctrines."
