An American educator and Episcopal clergyman; born in Massachusetts, 1863. He was professor of literature and of ecclesiastical history at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn., 1885-94. He wrote: Sketch of the Philosophy of American Literature"; "The Rise of Papal Supremacy"; "Outline of the Rise of the Philosophy of English Literature". He died July 2, 1901.
