A French poet; born in Clermont, 1554; died at Paris, 1615 (?). He tried his hand at every species of metrical composition,- odes, elegies, sonnets, and imitations of the Psalms; but his important work is contained in a "Menippean Satire", written to ridicule the League against Henry IV.,- the sub-title being "Lamentation for a Leagued Ass, that Died in 1590, when the States Were in Session".
