It has been said to be a useful assistant to sea-water, in the cure of disorders of the glands. When the wrack, in fruit, is dried, cleaned, exposed to a red-heat in a crucible with a perforated lid, and is reduced to powder, it forms the Aethiops vegetabilis- the Pulvis Quercus Marinoe of the Dublin Pharmacopoeia-which is used, like the burnt sponge, in bronchocele and other scrofulous swellings. See Soda.
