A Swedish historian; born in the province of Wermland, Jan. 12, 1783; died in Stockholm, April 23, 1847. At 20 he won a prize from the Swedish Academy for a eulogy of the great mediaeval regent Sten Sture, and at 27 became professor of history at the University of Upsala. He sat in the national Parliament for some years, and was distinguished for his eloquence. His "History of the Sweden from 1718 to 1772", and various contributions to the history of philosophy, theology, and Aesthetics, are epoch-making in Swedish letters. He had considerable musical talent, and many of his compositions have become favorite songs in Sweden.
