Laennec has given the term Encephraloid or Cerebriform matter to one of the morbid substances commonly formed by scirrhous or cancerous tumours. It is either encysted, in irregular masses without cysts, or infiltrated into the texture of the diseased organ. This name was given to it in consequence of its resemblance, when fully developed, to the medullary substance of the brain. See Cancer.
