A state in which certain ideas so completely absorb the mind, that the external sensations are suspended, the voluntary movements arrested, and even the vital action retarded. In catalepsy, there is, in addition, complete suspension of the intellectual faculties. This last condition is in general described as trance. See, also, luxation.
