(1760-1835), born in New York, was abroad from 1771 to 1795, when he returned to Philadelphia, and till 1822 edited the Aurora, the leading Democratic paper. He served as adjutant-general from 1813 to 1815, and was an important figure in anti-Jeffersonian Democratic politics in Pennsylvania.
