Bisferiens, from 'twice, and 'I strike.' An epithet given to the pulse, when it seems to beat twice as fast as usual. It is synonymous with the term rebounding, the artery rebounding after striking, so as to convey the sensation of double pulsation. It has been considered, and with truth, to frequently foretell hemorrhage. In bad cases of typhus, it certainly announces such a tendency.
